Hemkund Sahib Yatra
Near the Valley of flowers is the holy lake Hemkund- an important pilgrimage
of the Sikhs and Hindus. Along its shores is the sacred Sikh shrine where Guru
Gobind singh, the tenth Guru unified with god after Prolonged meditation in
his previous birth.
Nearby is the Lakshman Temple where Lakshman - the brother of Lord Rama performed
his penance. The reflection of surrounding snow- clad peaks in its placid waters
offers a scenic sight. Hemkund is the World`s highest shrine, situated at an
altitude of 4329 mts, and is on the bank of a glacier lake surrounded by several
towering pinnacles of snow, reflected in its clear water.
Another Trek Route from Ghangaria, a steeper one, leads to the high altitude
Lokpal Lake. It is believed that Guru Govind Singh , the tenth Guru of the Sikh
faith had mediated on the bank of this lake. There is a Sikh Gurudwara &
a Laxman Temple on the bank of the lake. A small stream called Him Ganga flows
out of the lake.
Mata Murti Temple (3 kms)
On the right bank of alaknana stands the temple dedicated to the mother of sri
Badrinathji.
Mana Village (4 kms)
Inhabited by Indo-Mangolian tribe, it is considered to be the last indian village
before Tibet. On this route, nearby are Vyas Gufa-the rock cave of saint Ved
Vyas, the writer of Mahabharata. Bhim Pul- a natural bridge over the Saraswati
river and Vasundhara Falls- a 122 mts. high waterfall - forming an important
part of the pilgrimage to Badrinath.
Alka Puri (15 kms)
The source of alaknanda river from the glacier snouts of Bhagirath-kharak and
satopanth glaciers.
Satopanth (25 kms)
Inhabited by Indo-Mangolian tribe, it is considered to be the last indian village
before Tibet. On this route, nearby are Vyas Gufa-the rock cave of saint Ved
Vyas, the writer of Mahabharata. Bhim Pul- a natural bridge over the Saraswati
river and Vasundhara Falls- a 122 mts. high waterfall - forming an important
part of the pilgrimage to Badrinath.
Govindghat (25 kms)
The confluence of alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers. It has an imposing Gurudwara
named after Guru Gobind singh.
Auli (57 kms)
Auli, 16 kms from Joshimath, is an ideal winter resort. The divine slopes of
Auli, coupled with state-of-the-art facilities have made it comparable with
the best in the world.
The snowy slopes of Auli, are girdled by stately coniferous and oak forests,
which cut the velocity of wind to the minimum. Auli offers a panoramic view
of many Himalayan peaks. Auli offers perfect skiing conditions. Seasonal skiers,
have a clean stretch of 10-20 kms of absolute virgin slopes, to ski on. These
slopes provide excellent opportunities for cross - country, slalom and downhill
skiing events. GMVN has snow beaters, which keep the slopes, ideal for skiing
at all times.
Valley of Flowers (42 kms)
Situated on the slopes above the confluence of alknanda and dhauliganga rivers
is the winter home of the lord of badrinath, Joshimath has many important temples
incloding the temple of ugra narsimha devoted to the half-lion half-man incarnation
of lord vishnu.
The name Joshimath has been derived from " Jyotirmath, Adi Guru Shankaracharya
attained enlightenment in the 18th century while meditating under a tree and
established a Math ( hermitage centre) here.
The temples of Narsingh & Nav Durga are located here. Orchards of peaches,
apples, apricots and many citrus fruits are of scenic interest. Owing to many
tourist bungalows, hotels & tourist lodges, one can easily find accommodation

A scenic spot amidst snow- clad peaks.
Chamoli (10 kms)
In the arms of the heavenly Himalayas lies the enchanting land of Chamoli, which
seems to be a benediction of earth. A blessed spot the place seems to have been
particularly dear to Lord Shiva. There are hundreds of shrines dedicated to
Lord shiva , the most important of all being the shrine of Badrinath. The other
shrines of religeous importance are Hemkund Saheb, three out of five Panch Kedar
and Panch Badri, which are spread over the hills of Chamoli. During the monsoons,
thousand brilliant blooms bursts forth in the fascinating " Valley of flowers"
.
The place reverberates with spirituality and is associated with a number of
legends. It is said that Hanuman found the Sanjeevani herb here to revivie the
unconsccious laxman. It is blieved that Ved Vyas composed his immortal epic,
the Mahabharata here.Guru Gobind singh is also believed to have meditated here.
Surrounded by Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, Rudrapryag., Ptihoragarh, Almora and
pauri Garhawa districts and with Tibet lying to its north, Chamoli attracts
tourists and invites trekking inthusiasts from all over the world to discvover
the fulles potential of their body & mind. Chamoli , a hill district of
U.P., has immense geographical, historical, religious and cultural importance.
Chamoli lies in the arms of the heavenly Himalayas and is full of natural beauty.

mountain ranges, rivers and valleys are associated wit several Gods & Goddesses.
The celebrated shrine of Badrinath, a famous pilgirmage of Hindus, the well
known " Valley of Flower" and Auli Bugyal are situated here. Today,
this snow clad peaks which are a delight for adventure loving tourists. Gopeshwar
is the district headquarter of chamoli and is situated at a height of 1308 mts.
Srinagar (192 kms)
Srinagar, the state capital, is situated at an altitude of 1,730 meters above
sea level. It is connected by Indian Airlines and Jet Airways flights directly
to Jammu and New Delhi, and hence to every part of the national network. An
all-weather road to Jammu, which in turn is connected, too many parts of North
India connects Srinagar. Srinagar's nearest railhead is Jammu, which in turn
connects all parts of the country, including Delhi, Calcutta, Pune, Murnbai
and Kanyakumari, Kashmir receives most of its rainfall in spring. If you've

Srinagar is a unique city because of its lakes - the Dal, Nagin and Anchor.
The River Jhelum also flows through a part of the city.
